feedback on washing line of urban design

  1. People liked: 2 Comments: Perfect invitation for street drinkers to return 12 residents 100% no seating Seamans, Mind, Local Trading Company, Jay Jays, Opticians, Ink Express, Ted Williams. Twistys
  2. People liked:6 Comments:Like the paving Not bad 3 comments: Cobbles unsafe for elderly resident (Kersley Road)
  3. People liked: 9 Comments : Looks impressive but not suitable. A place to stop and think. I like this but it is likely to get vandalised and it would be a tripping hazard for the blind and elderly. Could put some small pieces on some of the kerb. Small clusters near the kerb edge distanced about 3ft apart will stop cars driving onto the area.
  4. People liked: 7 Comments : I like this idea (resident). Maybe a lot smaller bushes. OK. I like bushes around trees.
  5. People liked: 3 Comments: Perfect for kids + mums to relax. Not a good idea too near a main road to have unsupervised children playing. Parent. Area too small for a water feature that kids could play in, but I like the idea. Resident. Too many health and safety issues.
  6. People liked: 8 Comments : I like this, who would maintain the pots. Resident. Looks nice would need to be secured to floor, and not too big. Resident. It’s ok. Resident. Nice and colourful (2 comments).. I like sunflowers.
  7. People liked: 6 Comments : Ok. Worker. Could display local schools artwork. Resident. OK would need to make sure it didn’t block access and visibility.

  8. People liked: 8 Comments : Shelter with more green. Simple interactive fun. Re-instate gas lamp. A social sheltered space, seating and gathering space like Facony Square in France. Very green, very funny. Like the idea but not with shelter, or seating. Shop owner. Nice but I don’t think it would get used properly, people anything it if was not fastened down. Resident. Perhaps something similar that could be used without pieces. Belgrave Square
  9. People liked: 4 Comments: Trees lots of them. Nice idea, but too many trees. Resident. Perhaps just a couple of trees. Thorpe Close. Trees + permanent space clearing for temporary exhibitions(community)
  10. People liked: 5 Comments: The kiosk might be alright it depends what it is used for . A small kiosk prompting London road amenities. Used by different shops from the street promotion.
  11. People liked: None Comments: no comments

  12. People liked: 2 Comments: Flat with the floor colour reflective. I like this it is interesting and makes you think of the environment. Would just be sat or laid upon. Alderson Road. Dangerous for infirm and elderly. Thorpe Close. Area is not big enough for this. Worker London Road.

  1. other suggestions collected at lloyds chemists, november 2008,mainly from businesses:
    Other suggestions/ Comments:
Toilets, would have to have a permanent attendant, Not a good idea council could not keep the others clean resident.
Bushes- as long as they were well maintained, Only very small ones resident, Shelter, Shelter, No would only attract street drinkers , not a big enough area?
Repaving, Yes perhaps a mosaic pattern, Ok some kind of patterned stone, Ok , Yes, Yes , I think the area would look better re- paved with possibly some sort of design in it (but no seating) Worker,
Other, Non of these designs are suitable for a small area, anything that could be sat, leant, laid on will just bring the dreaded street drinkers back resident, It was brought to my attention by some shop owners and residents that they petitioned the council to remove the seating a couple of years ago, and last year to have the planters removed. This was because the street drinkers were making life very uncomfortable for residents, shoppers, and shop owners alike, through defecating in park, people’s passages, and back yards. Intimidating, and begging for money. in some cases people have been manhandled when they would not give them money. Area is not that large for a lot of the suggestions as when you consider the areas you cannot use pavements on either side disabled access on Alderson road and Bennett Street, and bus stop access.
Off road parking for customers, Seamans, Ted Williams Customer Customer Resident Mind Lloyds
